Labrador leather is renowned as one of the finest upholstery leathers offered by Luonto®. This semi-aniline leather is lightly sanded, allowing it to maintain the unique grain patterns inherent to the hide.

The crafting of Labrador involves the use of premium raw hides, with a minimal surface treatment that preserves the natural characteristics of the leather. Features such as slight color variations, scars, and marks are intentionally kept intact, contributing to the leather's genuine look.

This leather is not only comfortable but also durable, improving in appearance over time. However, being a natural material, it necessitates appropriate care to keep it looking its best for many years.

For the best upkeep and safeguarding of your leather furniture, we advise using specific leather care items and following the steps provided below:

GUIDELINES FOR PROPER LEATHER CARE

• Ensure that leather is kept out of direct sunlight to prevent fading and damage.
•  Maintain a safe distance from heat sources to avoid drying and cracking.
• Regularly dust leather surfaces with a soft, dry cloth to preserve their appearance.
•  In the event of a spill, promptly blot the area with a clean, absorbent cloth or sponge to minimize staining.
•  For thorough cleaning, utilize a lightly damp cloth with a gentle, natural soap, taking care not to oversaturate the leather.
• Avoid rubbing; instead, employ a gentle circular motion to clean the entire surface uniformly.
• Immediately follow up with a soft, dry cloth to ensure the leather is dried properly after treatment.
• Refrain from using household cleaning agents, furniture polishes, ammonia, bleach, varnish, oils, or similar products that may harm the leather.
• Should you wish to use specialized creams or lotions for leather care, it is advisable to consult with reputable leather care professionals or companies. We are available to provide recommendations as needed.

Type:

• Defines the category of the material (e.g., Leather, Faux Leather).
• A high-quality type should have a clear origin and purpose (e.g., full-grain leather, semi-aniline leather).

Grade:

• Indicates the leather’s quality and pricing level. Higher grades typically reflect the use of premium hides and superior processing techniques.
• In the furniture industry, a higher grade often means better texture, more natural appearance, and enhanced durability.

Leather Type:

• Specifies the type of leather used:
  
  • Full-Grain Leather: The highest quality, retains the natural grain and markings of the hide.
  • Top-Grain Leather: Slightly corrected for a more uniform appearance, but still high quality.
  • Corrected Grain Leather: Treated and embossed for a consistent look, commonly used for durability.
  • Split Leather (Not used in Luonto Products): Lower layer of the hide, often used for cost-effective options.
  • Bonded Leather (Not used in Luonto Products): Made from leather scraps bonded with adhesives and a synthetic layer on top.

Finishing Type:

• Describes the surface treatment applied to the leather:
  
  • Aniline: Natural, with minimal surface coating. Retains the leather’s natural feel.
  • Semi-Aniline: Light protective coating for better durability while maintaining softness.
  • Pigmented: Heavily coated for maximum durability and consistent color.
  • Pull-Up: Treated with oils or waxes, creating a distressed look over time.

Texture:

• Indicates the surface feel of the leather:
  
  • Smooth: Clean, consistent surface.
  • Pebbled/Grainy: Textured surface with a natural or embossed pattern.
  • Nubuck: Sanded or buffed for a velvety, suede-like finish.
  • Waxed: Coated with a light layer of wax for a rustic appearance.

Thickness:

• Describes the thickness of the leather, usually measured in millimeters (mm).
• High-quality leather is typically thicker, offering greater durability and a richer feel.

Certificates:

• Verifies the leather’s compliance with industry standards (e.g., REACH, OEKO-TEX).
• High-quality leathers are often certified for safety, sustainability, and ethical sourcing.

Durability:

• High-quality leathers typically demonstrate excellent durability without losing their appearance.

Color Fastness:

• Evaluates the leather’s ability to maintain its color when exposed to light and wear.
• Measured using a Grey Scale or Blue Scale:
  
  • Grey Scale: 1 (low) to 5 (high).
  • Blue Scale: 1 (low) to 8 (high).
• High-quality leathers should maintain their color over time.

Origin:

• Indicates the country or region where the leather is produced.
• High-quality leathers often come from countries with strong leather industries (e.g., Italy, Brazil, Germany).
