Type:

• Defines the category of the material (e.g., Fabric, Leather).
• A high-quality type should have a clear composition and purpose (e.g., performance fabric, recycled material).

Grade:

• Indicates the fabric’s price level and quality. Higher grades typically reflect the use of more specialized raw materials. 
• In the furniture industry, a higher grade often means more enhanced texture, superior craftsmanship, and a more refined finish

Composition:

• Describes the fiber content of the fabric (e.g., 100% Recycled Polyester).
• High-quality fabrics typically use materials with excellent durability, eco-friendly certifications, or unique performance properties.

Certificates:

• Verifies the fabric’s compliance with industry standards (e.g., Oeko-Tex, GSR, Reach).
• High-quality fabrics should are generally certified for safety, sustainability, and performance.

Martindale Rating:

• Measures the fabric’s resistance to wear (abrasion).
• Industry Standard:
  
  • 20,000 cycles: Residential use.
  • 40,000+ cycles: Commercial use.
  • 100,000+ cycles: Heavy-duty or high-traffic environments.
• High-quality fabrics typically have a Martindale rating of 40,000 or higher.

Pilling Resistance:

• Indicates the fabric’s ability to resist pilling (small fiber balls on the surface).
• Rated on a scale of 1 to 5:
  
  • 5: No pilling.
  • 1: Severe pilling.
• High-quality fabrics should have a rating of 4 or 5.

Color Fastness - Light (Grey Scale & Blue Scale):

• Grey Scale: Measures the fabric’s resistance to fading under light exposure.
• Blue Scale: Another method for light resistance measurement.
• Rated on a scale of 1 to 8:
  
  • 8: No fading.
  • 1: High degree of fading.
• High-quality fabrics typically score 4-5 or above on the Grey Scale.

Color Fastness - Rubbing:

• Evaluates the fabric’s ability to maintain color when subjected to friction.
• Rated on a scale of 1 to 5:
  
  • 5: No color transfer.
  • 1: High color transfer.
• High-quality fabrics should score 4-5.

Cleaning Code:

• Specifies the recommended cleaning method:
  
  • HW: Hand Wash - Clean with water by hand.
  • SW: Spot Wash - Clean with water-based cleaners or mild dry-cleaning solvents.
  • DC: Dry Clean Only - Professional dry cleaning recommended.
  • X: Do Not Clean - No water or solvent cleaning. Use vacuuming or light brushing only.
• High-quality fabrics should be easy to maintain without losing their texture or color.

Origin:

• Indicates the country or region where the fabric is produced.
• High-quality fabrics often come from countries with strong textile industries (e.g., Italy, Belgium, Turkey).

Available Colors:

• A wide color range allows for more design flexibility.

Performance Category:

• Specifies the performance level of the fabric:
  
  • Performance Fabric: Engineered for reliable durability and ease of cleaning for everyday use. Typically includes polyester-based fabrics with moderate abrasion resistance and stain resistance.
  • High-Performance Fabric: Designed for demanding environments, offering superior durability, stain resistance, enhanced cleaning capabilities, and longer color retention. Often treated with advanced technology like Aqua Clean or EasyCare.

Performance Description:

• Provides a brief explanation of the fabric’s performance characteristics.
  
  • For Performance Fabrics: “Durable and easy to maintain, ideal for residential and light commercial use.”
  • For High-Performance Fabrics: “Superior durability, stain resistance, and color retention. Suitable for high-traffic areas.”
